Vishuthaineettam for Techies inaugurated by Sugathakumari teacher – A unique initiative to promote vegetable cultivation at home among techies and there by regain the lost connectivity with nature.
Vivekananda Study Circle, Technopark (VSC) organized ‘Vishuthaineettam’, a novel initiative to
help the techies regain the lost connectivity with nature by planting vegetable saplings during
auspicious Vishu. Well known environmental activist Padma Shri Sugathakumari teacher
inaugurated the function by handing over a sapling to Mr. Girish Babu, CEO of Technopark. In her
keynote speech, Smt. Sugathakumari teacher stressed on the need for farming at home and
connectivity with nature. She encouraged the techies to take up rooftop/balcony farming, however
small it be. Seeing the large turnout for the event, she expressed her surprise in realizing that techies
had a different face as well, than that is known to the outside world, which cared for the nature. Mr.
Girish Babu, CEO of Technopark also thanked VSC for the innovative idea and expressed his dire
desire to keep Technopark nature friendly. A short session on organic farming was also conducted as
part of the initiative by Shri. Unnikrishnan Velayudhan. Function was presided over by Shri. S Mohan
Kumar, President VSC. As part of this initiative, VSC has arranged more than 6000 vegetable
saplings to be distributed to the techies. VSC volunteers will be distributing the saplings on 9th and
10th of April through stalls set up in front of various Technopark buildings.
The initiative has been launched at a time when people are shying away from organic terrace farming
due to lack of time and knowledge. The initiative was greatly appreciated and welcomed by the
techies. Many got inspired by the novel idea and are actively participating to have a small farm set up
at home. Techies are finding this to be a great stress reliever as well in their hectic lives.
VSC has been active in Technopark for several years now taking up various social and charity
activities. Subsequently VSC volunteers are planning to plant 100 shade tree saplings in Technopark
based on the request from the CEO of Technopark. Thankful to the huge support from techies, VSC
has pledged to carry forward the activities with much more enthusiasm and ensure this initiative
becomes fruitful by means of periodic follow up programs.
We are glad to inform you that Vivekananda Study Circle (VSC – a voluntary group of professionals in Technopark) is organizing ‘Vishuthaineettam’, a novel initiative to help the techies regain the lost connectivity with nature. VSC volunteers are gearing up to welcome this year’s Vishu by providing a sapling to the employees of Technopark. The idea is to keep the sapling as a Vrukshakkani and Vishuthaineettam to augment the traditional Vishukkani and Vishukkaineettam and thereby foster the love for nature in the hearts of younger generations.
We are planning to conduct an inaugural function on 8th April 2015 at 6 PM in Travancore Hall, Technopark, followed by a 2 day stall, from where the saplings will be distributed. As per the current plan, we are targeting to distribute a minimum of 2000 saplings to the techies. Well known environmentalist Padmashri Smt. Sugathakumari teacher has agreed to be our chief guest for the inaugural function and deliver the key note speech.
On behalf of the Vivekananda Study Circle, we request you to grace the occasion by your presence and be a part of the initiative.
Political greatness or military power is never the mission of our race(India). it never was, and, mark my words, it never will be. But there has been the other mission given to us, which is to conserve, to preserve, to accumulate,as it were, into a dynamo, all the spiritual energy of the race, and that concentrated energy is to pour forth in a deluge on the world whenever circumstances are propitious – Swamiji
One day the editor of a newspaper Sakharam Ganesh came to meet Swamiji with some friends to discuss about religion. One of them from punjab. Swamiji started asking about punjab and its conditions and discussion diverted to nationalism and other issues faced by India. When the guests about to leave, the punjabi friend said, Swamiji, We came to you with the hope of discussing religion with you but unfortunately we only discussed general topics.
Swamiji became serious and replied. “Dear, as long as even a single dog in my country is hungry, my religion will be to give him food. Doing anything else would be irreligious”.
What a perception about religion. We salute you master
